Domain authority (DA) is a search engine ranking Metric that predicts a website’s ability to rank on search engine results pages (SERPs). It is basically a website’s relevance or quality according to search engines.

However, they recently announced they were rolling out an update on Domain Authority scoring which will resemble more closely how search engines order search results.
HOW DOMAIN AUTHORITY IS DETERMINED
Domain Authority scores range from 1 to 100. The higher your score, the more traffic you will have, and the better your website will rank.
The ranking is not Linear but In a logarithmic pattern. What it means is that; Moving the scale by just one point at a high level takes far more effort than moving by one point at a lower level.
Moz themselves Put it this way on their website “We score Domain Authority on a 100-point, logarithmic scale. Thus, it’s significantly easier to grow your score from 20 to 30 than it is to grow from 70 to 80.”
DA of between 50 to 40 is considered as average DA, between 60 to 50 is considered good while a DA of over 60 is considered as excellent DA score.
Moz Company uses over 40 different factors to calculate your DA score. Some of the most important ones include
MozRank: A metric used to determine the strength of your website’s external links.
MozTrust: A metric used to determine the quality of your website’s external links.
Linking Root Domains: The total number of unique backlinks your website has.
Quality Content: The quality content on your website is an important factor in determining DA.
Search Friendliness: Includes how user-friendly your website is, and the structure and orderliness of your website.
Social Signals: Includes social media links shares and mentions these signals are used in identifying quality content.

Influencing DA is a long term process that cannot happen overnight by tweaking a few things on your website. But it sure can be influenced over time.
